RATT Out of the cellar is the first album released in 1984 by this American Hard Rock / Metal band that along with Motley Crue influenced a lot of the LA scene. While Motley Definitely got there first with their first album in 1981 it suprised me to find out Steven Percy had been kicking around the band scene since 1973.
RATT have a great metal guitar tone with some hard rock vocals that remind a little of ACDC but I guess you could say it is the next evolution of Hard Rock.
The album starts out with a great guitar tone and into “Wanted Man” a song about living the hard rock lifestyle. Very slick, great sound and the vocals perfectly suit the guitar tones, this is already great stuff and we’re only one song into the album. Third song in is probably their best known song “Round and Round” which comes across as taking a bit from Motley Crue and a bit from Van Halen and serves it up in one great big dish for our ears.
Most of the songs are really easy to get into with some big choruses that stick in your head “She Wants Money” is definitely one of them. The riffs are big fat metal hard rockers and the solos (Courtesy of the awesome Warren DiMartini) have that post Van Halen feel. Overall this is great stuff and very easy to find yourself grooving along to!
The tunes on this album are rockers and some very radio friendly tracks here too. The band ended up charting at #12 in the US and were basically propelled into stardom right from their first record.
