Cannabis Corpse the Weeding is the latest EP from these Virginia based smokers. As the more astute amongst you may have realised the name is a parody of well respected death metal band Cannibal Corpse. Obviously Cannabis Corpse don’t take themselves too seriously being a side project for a couple of guys from Municipal Waste. Having said that its pretty evident from the first few seconds of these guys can really play.
Cannabis Corpse The Weeding is obviously a play on Cannibal Corpses album “The Bleeding” and they play in a very similar style to Cannibal Corpse. I have one of their other albums and was keen to hear this one as I enjoyed that other one a lot so was quite excited to see how they sound nowadays.
The lads don’t disappoint. They’ve managed to successfully play Cannibal Corpse style death metal, similar riffs, drumming and vocals that seriously wouldn’t be out of place on a CC record, whilst injecting a weed based sense of humour. Song titles such as “Skull full of bong hits” leave no doubt that the lads are a tongue in cheek homage to their Floridian death metal masters. This release (as is the other ones I’ve heard) is well produced and played immaculately. This is a great listen, even though I know I can just listen to Cannibal Corpse instead this is really good death metal.
