Cursed Masters is the 2026 release from Diri Giri, an an extreme metal band hailing from San Antonio in Texas. The band has been around for a while (Since 2004) and judging by this release they have a wide variety of influences.

I’ve heard this band before but I Seem to remember them being more straight ahead death metal but have now adapted a much more varied style and I think it works well for them. The Riffing style seems to go from Death to thrash and even black metal and some newer sounding death metal influeces like “At the Gates” etc… and sometimes even going into “Morbid Angel” Territory. The guitar sound is clear and also carries a decent weight. I’m assuming it’s main man Gene that writes all the music, and their are some very memorable riffs which make this very easy to listen to.
The vocals also range from death metal styled gutteral to what I would say steps in to a higher pitched black metal territory. Drumming is pretty power house stuff but the mixing on this also means the drums don’t overpower everything. From the opening riffs of “Holy Perversion” you can see these guys are working in heavy but easy to absorb death metal. The songs basically follow in the vein established by the first song but the musical avenues this band explores keep this short but sweet interesting the whole way trough.
Overll, I have to say I liked it quite a lot. More so, than last time I heard them. The band now has a big sound than I remembered and with those awesome riffs comes across as a much larger band than they are. Only thing I can really say, is head over to their Bandcamp page and give this a listen, and if you’re feeling generous, buy it!
