I have to admit I’ve never really been into Tank. My band got to open for them once and I thought to myself “This is pretty cool” like the band was quite professional and they put on a great show, but didn’t leave any real lasting impression on me. I was also quite distracted that gig as there was a very pretty lady there who i was trying to talk to (She later became the mother of my second son). So with going back and listening to this with no ladies to distract me this is a completely different vibe to what I remember the band to have been in 2019 when we played the show with them.
The album opens up with “Shellshock” and instantly I’m getting Motorhead vibes though this is more focused on the guitar playing mixing Iron Maiden, and some very impressive blues chops with that unmistakable sound that Motorhead pioneered. “Run Like Hell” is solid but the next song “Blood Guts and Beer” really struck a chord with me! Great chours and the perfect mix of Maiden and Motorhead.
Further into the album theres song “Turn your Head Around” and I’m thinking thing to myself “Where have i heard this before” and it came to me that Sodom covered it on their “Better off Dead” album. Nice! It turns out i’ve been listening to Tank a lot longer than I thought haha.
This album is easy to like and a great slab of old school hard rock / metal. I wouldn’t go so far as to say its an essential album but definitely worth your time to back and listen to at least once!
