Well, Suffocation Human Waste is a new level of extremity both musically and vocally wise combining blast beats like many of the grind bands like Napalm Death and Terrorizer had before them with death metal techicality and breakneck riffs and timing changes that that not many had managed to achieve, let alone perfect at this point. While the band was still new, to put out something like this as a first release was a fair acheivement.
This one opens up with the inhumanely heavy “Infecting the Crypts” and from a coherence point of view is one of the heaviest things ever laid to tape. This was as extreme as anything going around at the time but brought a new level of technicality that only bands like Morbid Angel and Death had been able to reach. But I can’t think of anyone that had had mastered the timing changes in the same way these guys had.
Side 2 brings “Mass Obliteration” and the inhuman riffage and drumming continues , this is a beast of an EP and no wonder these guys became huge. This is feast of rawness and brutality with “Catatonia” and “Jesus Wept” closing things off….
Overall this is a little different than their next releases, I kinda liked Frank’s vocals on this as it is more stock death metal (What I was used to at the time) and a bit easier to grasp than what would follow. This is a landmark release for death metal. Do yourself a favour and check it out!
