Well, dammit. This is one of the darkest slabs of death metal I’ve ever heard. Sadistic Intent hail from California USA having formed in 1987 they’ve not had a huge output considering how long the band has been around, but what they have put out has been sweeeet!
Resurrection is one of their EPs and was released back in 1994. I remember hearing it a few years later (maybe in the late 90s) and being blown away by it. The sound comes across as heavily influenced by fellow California band Possessed, but with much darker sinister tone. Once we get the Intro out of the way there’s some fast riffage that like brings to mind possessed, but there’s also a lot of room to breathe with some very creepy sounding slower parts. Despite the heaviness Sadistic Intent are quite musical and very easy to listen to as far as extreme metal goes. The production is a suitably rough, but again with many of the recordings from this era, it adds to the atmosphere. I really couldn’t imagine these dudes with a polished mega production anyway.
While Sadistic Intent have never been the most prolific band I understand they’re still thrashing it out to this day having recently toured South America. This one is definitely worth a listen and if you’re of a similar mindset to me you’ll love this slab of old school death metal.
