I’ve seen Left to Die live, covering the Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy era DEATH and dammit they did a great job of bringing the legacy of Death to the stage. For those that don’t know this features Rick Rozz and Terry Butler from the early days of Death, and Matt the singer from Exhumed playing guitar and singing. As a homage to Death and the old school glory that it represents this is perfect. Song wise Initium Mortis is basically the early demo’s and rehearsal songs from Death / Mantas era Death but re-worked and re-invigorated to incorporate modern sounds and technology and of course modern musical standards. Some might be precious about these recordings being re-released but really if you’ve heard them, they were musically ground breaking but very hard to listen to. I think It’s great to see this stuff continuing with the same old school spirit but given a new lease of life.
With the old school pedigree this band has you know this will never be a fail. Sound wise this is basically Leprosy era “Death” but with modern production and a little (well a lot) more shred than That particular era of death had. Or maybe you could considered “Spiritual Healing” level shred on a more old school base. Either way glorious stuff.
Chuck Schuldiner’s legacy is not something to be fucked with and these guys have done him proud. Old school death metallers that took a prized recordings and re-invigorated it with a modern sense. I live the fact they have used the old school Ed Repka style art work (I’m assuming it has to be his stuff), it just reeks of old school Death in the best possible way.
I can’t really pick a favourite track, as basically its all glorious and it brings a tear to the eye just hearing this stuff in listenable format! Well done guys, I raise a goblet full of zombie blood to thee!
