Destroyer 666 formed out of the dissillusion of legendary Australian band Bestial Warlust. Guitar player Keith rebranded himself as KK Warslut and formed a band that would far outstrip the quite sizable success that Bestial Warlust enjoyed. This is their debut album, Destroyer 666 Violence is the Prince of this World from 1994.
From the onset one can see the similarities between this and Bestial Warlust well at least in the first song (to be fair this is where a lot of D666’s fan base would have initially come from so it was a wise move) although it becomes clear this is a lot more instantly listenable. Where as Bestial Warlust were an extremity this has some great melodies hidden in what is still intense underground death metal, once we get past the initial onslaught of the first couple of songs.
Further into the release we are treated to a dark form of death metal that really breathes and creates something unique. “True Sons of Satan” really introduces the true Destroyer 666 sound and from here on in the album really shines. This is well played and well performed album. It is immediately enjoyable and while the album sounds a little underproduced this really just the first chapter in a band that would in the future put out an undeniably strong body of work and become a major force in Australia and later on the world of underground metal.
